Walking Through Ribbons

The small illusion that carries a big WALLOP!

This wonderful effect is perfect for the living room as well as stage performance. Something as versatile as this doesn't come along often.

A nicely decorated tube is handed to a spectator to hold. Two ribbons are shown separate and placed through the tube, leaving the ends hanging from each end of the tube. A second spectator is handed the ends of the ribbons extending from one side of the tube. The magician holds the ribbons from the other side. The spectator holding the tube is asked to walk as far as he can before the ribbons stop him. To his surprise, he walks completely through the ribbons! Think about these performance points:

The ribbons appear to completely penetrate the solid tube as well as his body
The spectator and magician holding the ribbons never release their grip
The ribbons are still intact. The tube doesn't have a hole or slot in it that the ribbons could escape through
