Coloring Book Monte

The Monte Routine Has Been Brought Back To Basics

Three coloring books are placed on the table. The performer tells the audience, “All you have to do is follow the book that has already been colored. Everybody is a winner!” He picks up the first book and shows it to be completely colored. He picks up the second and third book and showing the pictures uncolored. Now the fun begins.

The magician invites a child and the parent to join in playing the game. Two of the books are shown without colored pages and one is shown with the pages already colored. The child is told that the adult always plays first, so the parent will be able to help if needed later when the child tries.

The parent is asked to keep his eyes on the book that has already been colored. The books are slowly mixed. Then, the parent is asked to make his selection. Having followed the careful movements, the parent announces with confidence that he knows the exact location of the colored book and proceeds to point it out. However, when that book is shown, it is not the one that has been colored. One of the two remaining books is also shown without color. And finally, the last book is shown colored.

The parent always makes the wrong guess. After two failed attempts by the parent, the child is told that perhaps he/she could actually help the parent. Because, many times parents actually learn from their children. So, let’s try. On this third try (the child’s first attempt) the child actually selects the coloring book with the colored pages and WINS to a huge round of applause. WOW!

An alternate ending is included that allows the parent and child to work as a team where they are both successful and feel good about working together. Coloring Book Monte is a heart warming routine that teaches teamwork and perseverance.

Six Way Coloring Book

Colorful - An Instant Applause Getter!

The magic Coloring Book is always a hit in any childrens entertainer's show. But the Six Way Coloring Book is absolutely amazing! It's great for magicians, clowns, M.C.'s, and storytellers. This is a "feel good" effect that can make the special child become the highlight of the effect.

The pages of the Six Way Coloring Book are shown blank. The magician is somewhat embarrassed at buying a coloring book without any pictures to color, so he asks the special child to help out by thinking of a story, he to draw some of the pictures from the story. The child takes his finger and pretends to draw pretty pictures on the cover of the coloring book. When the book is fanned open, there are no pictures, but stories and nursery rhymes are now in the coloring book.

The magician asks the child to think about the pictures and try again, this time black line drawings appear in the book with the words. The magician comments that the pictures are nice but some color would be good also. Wanting to put a little color in their lives, the magician asks all the children in the audience to help catch colors from the rainbows in the sky. When they throw the imaginary colors at the coloring book, the pages are found to be beautifully colored. But, the colors have missed most of the drawings and seem to have been scribbled in the book. Again the magician asks the assistant to help again by waving his hand over the book to rearrange the colors in the book to try to get the colors onto the drawing outlines. Now when the book is opened, the colors are all within the lines, but the moon is blue, faces are green, all the colors are in the wrong places.

At this point the magician realizes that the assistant must have used the wrong hand to rearrange the colors and asks him to use his other hand and try again. Finally, when the book is opened, the colors are all in the correct places, the stories are still in the book and everything is just as it should be. The audience assistant goes back to his seat with a huge round of applause.

If you prefer, you may use the Vanishing Crayons or Color Changing Silk Streamer (sold separately). Wait until you see the look on the children's faces when the crayons vanish from the box and are found on the pages of the coloring book!
